Custom Cue #2

Construction will be similar to #1, but thicker shaft with no hollow forward section, stronger ferrule, and phenolic tip.

Forearm is Victorian Mountain Ash, and the handle is Merbau, both Australian hardwoods. Core is Canadian Rock Maple.

I will also try and keep the weight down to allow maximum acceleration.

Custom Cue #1

I have always wanted to take a shot at making a cue, and this was my first. It is a break cue.

The timber for the butt core and the shaft were imported, while I used locally sourced timbers for the handle and forearm.

Handle is Mountain ash, and the forearm is Mahogony. These were glued to the core with West System epoxy.

Butt sleeve and joint collars are made of Tomahawk. I added some brass rings to dress it up.

Ferrule is capped Juma.

Pin is Uni-loc quick release.

Workshop

workshopI have included some information about my equipment, since a few people have asked!

I am a big believer in CNC (Computer Numeric Control) equipment to really do precision work.

Shafts

I have A+++ Canadian Rock Maple in stock to make up to 762mm (30") shafts.

The shafts are turned to size slowly over a period of many months to ensure the wood has stabilized.

Usually I rough turn them and leave them ready for final profile, mostly to a pro taper.

Rings, collar and ferrules can be matched to your cue.

I have pins in stock for Uniloc, Radial, 5/16x18, 3/8x10, and Wavy, but I can also match pretty much any pin you need.

Custom Cue Process

Getting a custom cue made allows you to get exactly what you want in regard to length, weight, composition, look and feel.

The best way to start this process is to shoot with as many different cues as you can and see what you prefer to play with.

These are the things that we need to work together on to get the best cue for you:

Custom Cue #21 (Break)

This is a butt only to match a customers BK Rush shaft.

The client has specified all Fuschia coloured forend, Uniloc quick release pin, 737mm (29") length and  553g (20oz) total weight.

The radial laminated maple core was turned to size, glue relief grooves cut and the Tasmanian Blackwood handle glued in place. Forend is Prickly Ash and will be stained.

Butt cap and joint collar will be black Tomahawk to stay with colour scheme.
